Which device gives the best experience?
If you're buying something new, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K or aChromecast with Google TV is the best value. Both are inexpensive, fast and support every feature, including the TV guide, catch-up and 4K. Apple TV 4K is the premium choice with the smoothest playback.
Samsung and LG smart TVs work without any extra hardware, though the built-in apps are a little slower to load. Roku has limited support because its store doesn't offer compatible players. Our guide explains the workarounds.

Three tips for a buffer-free picture
Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet
The 5 GHz band or a cable is far more stable than 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for live TV.
Restart weekly
Restarting your stick or TV once a week clears memory and keeps apps responsive.
